Ekere Consults PDP, Calls For Issue-Based Campaigns Ahead of the November 29, 2014 gubernatorial primary, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Nsima Ekere, has called on all aspirants to run issue-based campaigns. Speaking during his consultation visit to the PDP State Executive Committee in Uyo on Thursday, Mr. Ekere pointed out that of all the aspirants he was the only one concentrating on issues and urged others to emulate him. He listed his four-point agenda for the state to include education and people’s development, economic prosperity, health and social wellbeing and rural development. The former Deputy Governor also promised to make Akwa Ibom the innovation capital of Nigeria by establishing an Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre. Responding, the State PDP Chairman, Obong Ekpo, declared that with the endorsement of the zoning by the NWC, the real game had started since all distractions were over. He promised a level playing field for all aspirants. A former PDP Deputy State Chairman of the party, Engr. Johnson Essien Ibok, described Mr. Ekere, a foundation member of the party, as the best material in the race in terms of capacity for the office of Governor. Mr. Ekere was accompanied to the PDP Secretariat by his father, Sir Gabriel Ekere, several political heavyweights, former state officers of the party, clerics, women, youths and cultural groups. Among the personalities on his entourage were Senator Ittak Ekarika, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Retd), Major-General Godwin Umoh (Retd), Sir Obot Etukafia, Dr. Emmanuel Ukpong, Chief Richard Umoren, Prince Victor Utuk, Prince Eneobong Akpan, Obong Amaete Ntuk, Barr. Chris Essien, Engr. Joseph Effiong, Prof. Etok Ekanem, Engr. Akan Okon, Obonganwan Blessing Bassey and Barr. Bassey Ekerete. Others were Engr. Etim Edet Okon, Mr. Hogan Eta Bassey, Barr. Mbet Okpongette, Mr. Mathias Idiong, Mr. Otuekong Inyang, Dr. Isaac Udomfu, Prince Monday Etiebet, Elder Aloysius Isonguyo, Mr. Loveday Ekuyork, Barr. Imoh Imoh, Chief Okon Akpanusong, Otuekong Emmanuel Ebe, Dr. Innocent Idiong, Obong Iniobong John and Engr. Etetim Okon (Metikon).
