Election and Theodicy by Bill Randolph 10. Sincere Questioner: How does Job’s lawsuit apply to Election? Humble Answer from Bill: a. Ah! That is the question. Here goes: b. Election is plainly taught in the Bible (Ephesians 1:4 , 11 ). c. However, it is estimated that as many as 80% of Christians who believe that the Bible is the Word of God, also deny that Election is true. d. These people oppose Unconditional Election because they believe that if it were true, it would seem that God is unjust. They mean well and are attempting to defend God. e. In Unconditional Election the issue is whether God is unjust or not. In Job’s suffering the point of contention is precisely the same, whether there is injustice with God. f. At least Job did not deny the fact that he was suffering. Nor did he disbelieve that God could have stopped it. Neither did Job deny that God seemed to be doing nothing about it. So he sued God. g. But the millions of Christians who explain away the great verses on Election do not try to bring a lawsuit before the Bar of God. Many simply respond with denial. On one hand they confess the Bible to be God’s holy inerrant Word. On the other hand the thought that God’s justice might be impugned leads them to deny the plain truth of it. h. Furthermore they tend to gravitate to teachers who say what they want to hear.
