Emirates Team New Zealand victory brings the magic of the America’s Cup alive… Tuesday, 27 August 2013 Nestlé Nespresso S.A. is a proud sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand and as the Kiwi team clinched victory in the Louis Vuitton Cup Final in San Francisco, USA, on Sunday, 25th August, the worldwide pioneer and reference for highest quality premium portioned coffee could not be prouder of what the team has achieved in their quest to win the oldest sporting trophy in the world. When Nespresso announced their sponsorship of the team in April 2011, Grant Dalton, Emirates Team New Zealand CEO set out the team’s intentions to mount a credible challenge and to give the team the best possible chance of winning the 34th America’s Cup: “That’s our mission and that is the expectation of our sponsors, partners and the people of New Zealand. It is an expectation that every member of this team is determined to fulfill.” Following Emirates Team New Zealand 7-1 win over Italy’s Luna Rossa, played out on the waters of San Francisco over the past week, the Kiwi team have secured their place in the 34th America’s Cup against the Defender, ORACLE Team USA. The score line of Emirates Team New Zealand’s victory looks convincing, but it has been a long journey from a performance-driven team who strive for excellence and who are fuelled by passion. “We are extremely proud to be part of Emirates Team New Zealand as they challenge for the 34th America’s Cup and congratulate all of the team on this great win,” commented Jean-Marc Duvoisin, CEO, Nestlé Nespresso. “As the longest-standing America’s Cup team, their experience, expertise and innovative mindset, driven by a fighting team spirit is an inspiration for Nespresso and our employees. We wish Grant Dalton and the Team much success in the quest for the ultimate cup." Emirates Team New Zealand bid to win the 30th Louis Vuitton Cup Final got off to a scary start when their powerful AC72 catamaran, Aotearoa, nosedived following a mark rounding, burying the port (left) bow up the main crossbeam reducing the boatspeed from 40 knots to 13 in a matter of seconds: “Everyone’s a little shaken,” said skipper Dean Barker. “This type of sailing is pretty full on.” The racing has stayed ‘full on’ for the duration of this Final as each team battled with technical issues and demanding racing conditions. However, the Kiwi team put the close call behind them and consistently out-performed Luna Rossa in terms of speed, securing their place in the 34th America’s Cup Final that starts on the 7th September. Nespresso announced their support of Emirates Team New Zealand in April 2011 and are proud to be an Elite Sponsor to the Kiwi team that already has a long and established America’s Cup history – two times winners of the America’s Cup and the first team from a country outside of the USA to successfully win the Cup (1995) and then defend (2000). The team captured the heart of the Kiwi nation, establishing a sporting brand that sits on a par with the All Blacks rugby team. In 2003 the team’s eight-year reign ended, losing to the Swiss team Alinghi. In 2007 the Kiwi team again advanced to the final but Alinghi retained the crown. Now under the mantle of CEO, Grant Dalton, and skipper, Dean Barker, Emirates Team New Zealand has mounted their challenge for the 34th America’s Cup. Nespresso: Official Coffee of the 34th America’s Cup 2013 The announcement of Nespresso as the Official Coffee of the 34th America’s Cup 2013 reaffirms the strong foundations of Nespresso with the America’s Cup that span nearly a decade. This latest sponsorship agreement with the 34th America’s Cup will allow Nespresso to create multiple brand and product experiences throughout the events. Fans and guests will have the opportunity to taste the ultimate cups: Nespresso Grand Cru coffees. This platform will also give the opportunity to Nespresso to develop multi faceted activation programmes to engage their consumers and Club Members. The new partnership includes the AC45 World Series event in Naples, Italy, the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Series (4th July to 30th August) and the America’s Cup finals between the 7th to 21st September that will determine which team will lift the oldest trophy in sport.
