Empty Cages Worldwide Four Kittens Found With Slashed Throats in Riverhead NY. A $3,700 reward is being offered Tuesday for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for slashing the throats of four kittens and then tossing their bodies into the yard of a Riverhead business, the ASPCA said in an Oct. 8 news release. Last week, investigators with the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals made a grisly discovery after being called to a business on East Main Street in Riverhead. Four newborn kittens were found with their throats slashed behind Riverhead Brake Service. The kittens – estimated to be three weeks old were found on Oct 1. “It appeared that the bodies of the kittens had been thrown over the fence into the yard of the business,” Suffolk SPCA Chief Ray Gross said in a news release. Animal cruelty investigators have scoured the neighborhood and distributed flyers for information, but have made no arrests in the case, as of Tuesday afternoon. The ASPCA, a national nonprofit group, announced the addition of a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The additional money is being offered along with a $1,200 reward by Suffolk County officials. “This is a truly sickening case of violent abuse, and the heartlessness demonstrated by those responsible is shocking,” said Stacy Wolf, senior vice president of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated in our society.” Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Suffolk SPCA investigators at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential. examiner/article/aspca-offers-reward-riverhead-kitten-slashing-case abclocal.go/wabc/story?section=news%2Flocal%2Flong_island&id=9274157
