Engineering question about crankshaft end float and alignment. What is the best way to correct crankshaft end float? A friend of mine measured the end float before stripping the cases and made a timing bush to suit ie the top hat of the bush was slightly thicker to give correct tolerance. It seems to me that the best set up is that big end and little end are square to each other and in alignment, so that when the piston is in the barrel, the end float on the piston on the gudgeon pin is even on each side. Am basically saying that the centre of the crankpin and little end should align. It seems to me that when re-bores are done that they bore in a position to take out wear,, scrapes and damage rather than give this ideal position. Just wondered what others thoughts were on this.
