Episcopal Peace Fellowship urges parents to take part in National ASK Day to protect their children Even as the nation is still reeling from the recent unrelenting nine-day-span of gun deaths at a California college, Oregon high school and Las Vegas restaurant and church – the Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF) urges parents to be proactive and take part in the National ASK Day this Saturday, June 21. “My son will go to kindergarten this fall and I am afraid,” said the Rev. Allison Liles, EPF executive director. “Politicians seem unable to enact meaningful changes to our lax gun regulation laws for fear of NRA-fueled voter backlash but we parents can take action by asking a simple question to our neighbor – “Is there an unlocked gun in your house?” – before sending your child over to play. The National ASK Day falls on the first day of summer every year – marking a season when kids typically spend more time at the home of friends and other family members, explains ASK on its website – askingsaveskids.org/. The site offers a toolkit, downloadable web banners, brochures and posters. Among such items, the Bodyguard Blanket – a portable, bulletproof covering for children – has seen its sales exceed its manufacturers expectations in less than two weeks on the market. Children can wrap themselves in the blanket in a duck-and-cover position to shield from bullets, debris or other projectiles.
