Essentially: We are honouring you guys - whats the problem? The response I got from Yum Yum potato chip company: Dear Christi Belcourt, We would like to thank you for sending us your opinion about one of our product. The new vintage packaging of our Regular and BBQ potato chips is a reminder of our bags from the 1960s. This vintage packaging is a limited edition. The character depicted on this packaging evokes the likely original developer of the potato chip, George Crum, a Native American. Such was the inspiration at the time for our founders, who also were of Native ancestry. The portrait of the Yum Yum character was drawn by an elementary schoolgirl for a drawing contest. She, too, was inspired by the Native American origins of both Yum Yum’s founder and the probable inventor of the potato chip. Far from being a derogatory caricature, the little character represents a homecoming for Yum Yum. It is witness to our roots and origin, a nostalgic look at our history, but also an opportunity to revive our customer’s memories. Sincerely, Yum Yum Marketing team yum-yum
