Ethics Advanced Technology Limited with collaboration Daily Prothom Alo organized a roundtable discussion session on Utilization of ICT solution in agriculture sector at prothom alo office last day from 11 am. Bangladesh has a primarily agrarian economy. Agriculture is the single largest producing sector of the economy. In many countries, agriculture accounts for the overwhelming majority of rural employment. Technical innovation, most prominently demonstrated in the Green Revolution, has been key to improving agricultural markets in the developing world. 17,600,804 no of families are living in agriculture in Bangladesh. The rapid development of mobile applications is changing the way we live and work, and great potential exists to apply them on improving our knowledge and well being. This is a sophisticated challenge though, but if we do not start the process of taking the benefits out of it, for the poor people of our country, over all socio economic development goal will not be established. Though basic SMS functions and real-time voice communication serve as the backbone and the current most common use of mobile phone technology, but the broad range of potential benefits to the agriculture sector that the simple functions of mobile phones can provide should not be understated. Aside from voice and text, mobile phones can also provide visual information. A recent study of 120 countries by World Bank showed that every 10% increase in mobile phone penetration means an economic growth of 0.8% in developing countries. Nowadays mobiles phones and their applications are one of the best forms of ICT. Many developing countries like India, Pakistan, and Thailand are already using mobile apps in agricultural sectors and getting rapid improvement in developing farmers’ knowledge. The round table discussion focused on bringing change in farmers lives through ICT.
