Ethics for a Diverse Society Any scientific inquiry begins with “Careful Observations” to form the ground work. India is the place of origin for four major religions Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. “Many scholars and intellectuals believe that Indias predominant religion, Hinduism, has long been a most tolerant religion.”[17] “India, with its traditional tolerance, has served as a refuge for groups that have encountered persecution elsewhere.”[18] The tolerance in every faith of Indian Origin is probably the basis for Mahatma Gandhi’s criticism of Christianity. Dr Ambedkar knows about Islam as much as anyone else. He wrote not just on Islam but many other faiths as well including Hinduism. “Unlike other religions in the World, the Hindu religion does not claim any one Prophet, it does not worship any one God, it does not believe in any one philosophic concept, it does not follow any one act of religious rites or performances; in fact, it does not satisfy the traditional features of a religion or creed. It is a way of life and nothing more. [19]
