Etiquette is dead (or am I just being stupid?). Between 12:40 and 6:30 this morning I received 15 (thats fifteen) texts from two students and the parent of a student- one student from each of the three schools I teach at. I want to keep the phone on for emergencies and because it is my alarm clock, but it has been dinging over and over while I try to sleep. I had thought (based on observation) that texting was somewhere between phone calls and email. You can email anytime but you shouldnt call after 9 pm or before 9 am except when urgent. Up to now I have rarely received a text after say 10 or 11 pm unless it was part of an ongoing conversation and a few between 7 & 9 am when it was about an appointment that day. Am I being a stick in the mud? I reflexively responded to the text at 6:30- but I do not intend to respond to the others until 9 as there is no urgency whatsoever. Is this actually rude or am I having a getting-older-old-man-get-off-my-lawn type moment?
