The brothers’ company, ELVH, Inc., has filed a trademark infringement suit against Kelly Van Halen, Alex’s second ex-wife. She still uses Van Halen and she’s named two companies she owns using the name, as well as attempting to trademark her name in relation to those businesses. The suit claims she is using the VH name to advance her company in the marketplace, as well as it being “confusingly similar to Plaintiff’s Van Halen Marks in sound, appearance and commercial impression.” Her business includes the sale of children’s blankets, furniture, construction services and interior design, services that at last check the band does not provide. Alex and Kelly divorced in 1996 after 20 years of marriage. They have two sons. James Taylors five decades in music will be wrapped up neatly in a two-CD compilation due October 29th from Sony/Legacy. The Essential James Taylor will give equal attention to Taylors hits on Warner Brothers and Columbia. It even reaches back to the early phase of his recording career -- with the Apple single Carolina on My Mind. A 2000 inductee of the both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, Taylor has won five Grammys and sold more than 100-million albums worldwide. His earliest hits, such as Fire and Rain, helped define the singer-songwriter movement of the 70s. He also put his imprint on songs made famous by others -- ranging from classics such as How Sweet It Is, Handy Man and close friend Carole Kings Youve Got a Friend. Taylor, who has spent much of this year working on a new album, will next perform on January 26th, when hell salute Carole King as MusiCares Person of the Year for 2014. Eric Waters, the father of Roger Waters, was killed in World War 2 as a member of the British Army when Roger was just five months old. He knew he was killed in 1944 in the Battle of Anzio in Italy, but until now he never knew exactly where. The mystery has been solved by 93-year old Harry Shindler, a representative of the Italy Star association of British Veterans. He tracked down documents that reveal the date and location of where his life was taken. Roger is aware of what has taken place and says, I think it is extraordinary. I learned that there is the possibility that I may be able to visit the spot where my father died. I am moved to tears by that fact. According to Russia Beyond the Headlines, the former American Idol panelist has been tapped as one of the judges at the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in November 9th in Moscow. An official announcement of the judging panel is expected within the next two weeks. The pageant will air on NBC. And the Beatles and thier fromer manager continue to make news.... A biographical play about Brian Epstein will be staged next summer in London. Donny Epstein – The Man Who Made The Beatles will have a six-week run, beginning with previews July 30th at the Leicester Square Theatre in Londons West End -- the U.K.s equivalent of Broadway. Andrew Lancel -- a veteran of British TV -- portrays the enigmatic music entrepreneur whose stellar career managing the worlds biggest rock band made him a household name while he struggled with keeping his gay identity in the closet. The show was first presented in Liverpool as part of the citys celebration of the Beatles 50th (British) anniversary in 2012. And the band plays on... A recently discovered Grateful Dead show will be released for Record Store Days Back to Black Friday event on November 29th. Family Dog at the Great Highway, San Francisco, CA 4/18/70 is an acoustic show where the Dead were billed as Mickey Hart and His Heartbeats and Bobby Ace and His Cards from the Bottom of the Deck. The 80-minute, 17-song set contains a mix of originals, covers and traditional songs, and will be available as a double vinyl set limited to 7500 copies. A CD version will be available at Dead.net on the same day, with plans for a digital version down the road. And the band remebers their keyboardist Jon Lord... Deep Purple have announced that theyll perform at the Celebrating Jon Lord Concert. The show honoring their late keyboardist -- who died in 2012 after a long battle with cancer -- will take place April 4th at Londons Royal Albert Hall. Also appearing at the show will be Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson and ex-Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman. A new Creedence Clearwater Revival box set will be out in time for the holidays.
