Event Preview: June 14th, 3rd Annual Southern Showdown WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Showdown, the event that kicked off the re-opening of the Southern Ohio Speedway in 2011, returns for the third edition of the race on Friday, June 14th. This year’s Southern Showdown will once again feature a 30 lap, $3,000 to win show for the Late Models. Modifieds will also be running for a special $800 to win and $110 to start purse. GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing schedule. Late Model Preview With a winners purse of $3,000 on the line, a great field of Late Models is expected to be in attendance on Friday. In addition to a strong winners purse, the rest of the payback throughout the field is also strong as the 30 lap feature will pay $200 to start and drivers that start the B-Main but do not transfer into the feature will receive $100. The competition this season in the Late Model division has been wide open as we have had six different winners in six races. Those winners include Danial Kattine, R. J. Conley, Jason Montgomery, Steve Francis, Doug Drown, and Jackie Boggs. Josh McGuire has yet to visit victory lane this season but has two second place finishes. Steve Lucas has also yet to visit SOS victory lane but finished second at the last Late Model race and has looked strong everytime he’s been at SOS. Last year’s track champion Eddie Carrier Jr. has won both Southern Showdowns held at the track. All of these drivers will be favorites heading into Friday. While the competition has been wide open this season, so has the racing action. All but one Late Model feature this year has seen a lead change. Five of the six Late Model features have seen lead changes in the final ten laps of the feature. Two of the six Late Model features have seen last lap lead changes. The last Late Model special, the Southern 100 Championship, saw six lead changes. It is sure to be a “can’t miss race” on Friday! Modified Preview The competition has also been wide open this season in the Modified division. We have seen five different winners in seven Modified races. Last week, last years track champion Jeremy Rayburn visited victory lane for the first time this season as he capped off the hat trick by being fast qualifier, winning his heat race, and winning the feature. This week extra money will be on the line for the Modifieds as they will pay $800 to win and $110 to start. Hanover, Indiana’s Joey Kramer won the last $800 to win Modified show back on May 3rd. It is sure to be a great show on Friday in the Modified division. GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars The Sport Mod division is coming off of their second straight special event with the “McGowan Race Parts 20″ that paid $400 to win. It was an exciting race for the entire 20 laps as last years track champion Eric Dennison took the big feature win. Last Friday also saw some new faces in the top five with Todd Brumfield second, fourteen year old Tyler Smith third, and Phil Colley in fifth. Danny Hamilton charged from the tail after a spinout to finish in fourth. It should be another great show on Friday in the Sport Mod division. Pure Stocks Barry Brisker has remained dominate in the Pure Stock division, winning all six features. Despite the low car count this season, SOS still remains commited long term for this class Times and Admission Prices Gates will open at 4:00 pm on Friday with hot laps at 7:30 pm.
