Ever since General John Logan established Decoration Day in 1868 - TopicsExpress

Ever since General John Logan established Decoration Day in 1868 for honoring the dead of the Civil War, America has celebrated a day of remembrance honoring our fallen comrades. Sadly, Im afraid that most Americans today simply view Memorial Day as a day off, a backyard bbq, or a time to party. As I studied for the message I delivered, I was moved by our founding fathers commitment to God, the Son, & the Holy Spirit. Many were the times, that a nationwide fast was called during the Revolutionary War with England. Many were the days, that a day of prayer was employed during those dark days. I want you all to know that I was deeply moved by our Memorial Day service yesterday. My heart was stirred as I listened to the men & women who shared the stories of their loved ones who have served in our nations military- some giving their life fulfilling John 15:13- greater love has no one than this; to lay down ones life for ones friends. Practically every family represented had a loved one who made a sacrifice for our countrys freedom by serving, and yes, some gave their lives. We have families in our congregation, people whom you set next to every Sunday, who have had loved ones who served in WW II, Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, Iraq, & Afghanistan. Today, I want you to know that Greenbrier Baptist salutes all the men & women who make up our nations military. We are privileged and honored to have the opportunity to pray for you & support you, in every way we are able. God bless you, and God bless America. Pastor Brian Jackson
