Ever wonder where the name DAVENPORT came from? Yesterday my family and I went to Bostons Mount Auburn Cemetery to finally bury my grandmother who passed away last September. Her wish was to be buried in the family plot next to her favorite sister. I had no idea the level of DAVENPORT family history my boys and I would get to experience in this process...which was probably half or her point knowing her! DAVENPORT was my GREAT grandmothers maiden name, and its currently mine and my youngest sons middle name. I had no idea the DAVENPORT name went back to 1783 in just the US. The memorial service was a great celebration of my loving, incredibly WELL educated and family focused grandmother. Being surrounded by so many DAVENPORTS yesterday and experiencing the strong family bonds that still exist through their generations of descendants, makes the name of our school so MUCH MORE than just a name…it is such a proud example of the sense of family and community that the name DAVENPORT truly stands for!
