Every morning just as the sun is rising I head out to feed the horses. The dogs come with me and mooch around the place. Charley, aged and stiff, quickly joins me in the barn, tail waving. But Anoushka gambols over a wide range, scenting and sighting with abandon. This morning, however, something sent her back to the cabin in a hurry, barking her alarm bark. When Charley trotted up to see if she needed help, she muscled him back to the steps for safety and took up a guard stance in front of him. I could see nothing down the slope where she was pointing, but I trust her judgment, especially since she is still grumbling and patrolling on the deck. So: mountain lion? Two have been recently spotted. Bear? Seen a couple of miles away last week. Bobcat? I think shed have chased that. Cant wait to find out. Will check for tracks later.
