Every time you hear Mr.Modi and the BJP raise their shrill rhetoric over Ram Mandir, blackmoney or Robert Vadra you can safely bet that an election is around the corner. And predictably, the Prime Minister, who after three long months in office without a trace of the much promised Ache Din, continues to fancy himself in the election campaign mode chose to flog what seems to be a dead-horse of an issue in Haryana. But heres what he conveniently forgot to tell you.... Fact1: Not an inch of government land was given to Robert Vadra The land deals, involving Robert Vadra, touted to be controversial, took place between two private entities. Not a single inch of land in the state was sold to Mr.Vadra by the Hooda government unlike the benevolence shown by Mr.Modis government in Gujarat which gifted over 9000 hectares of land, at throwaway prices, to one particular business group known to be close to him. Fact2: Three courts dismisses PILs for a probe into Vadras transactions after finding no merit. Not one, not two but three courts, which includes the high courts of Delhi and Allahabad and the Supreme Court of India, rejected three distinct public interest litigations (PILs) demanding a CBI probe into these controversial deals of Mr.Vadra! The Apex court while quashing the PIL remarked Merely because someone (Vadra) is linked to a politician, he cant be called as sinner. The Allahabad High Court was even more caustic in its verdict and stated this Public Interest Litigation appears to have been filed with some oblique motive. That being so, there is absolutely no merit and hence it deserves to be dismissed while recording a note of caution against filing of such petitions. Recently, the triple vindication was completed when the Delhi High Court too dismissed yet another PIL against Vadra! Fact3: CBI under the current BJP government refuses to register a preliminary enquiry leave alone an FIR against Vadra Interestingly, the petitioner in the Delhi High Court which just recently dismissed a PIL seeking a CBI probe into Vadras alleged wrong-doings, had even told the court that he had already given a representation to CBI under the BJP government , but it neither registered an FIR nor lodged even a preliminary enquiry in the case ! Now, the BJP must tell us if either the CBI is being asked to go slow by it on Robert Vadra or whether the CBI, functioning independently under Mr.Modi, is unable to find even a shred of evidence against him? Fact4: If indeed merits were so strong and the Delhi High court was wrong to have dismissed, just a fortnight ago, yet another PIL on Vadra, why did the Central government under BJP not appeal against its verdict in Supreme Court? Fact5: The BJP has all the evidence against Mr.Vadra yet it does not register an FIR nor does the BJP led Rajasthan government do so! We remember how eloquently Ravi Shankar Prasad, in the midst of the Lok Sabha election campaign, held a special press conference to expose the corrupt land deals of Mr. Vadra not just in Haryana but also in Rajasthan. He quoted various sections of law which had been violated! But his legal skills notwithstanding, for some strange reason , he chose not to just approach a police station and register an FIR! Curiously, his government in Rajasthan , which rode to power on this issue in December 2013, has not been able to gather enough material to even begin a preliminary enquiry in the last ten months! Curious indeed! Fact6: PM Modi in Haryana targets a private citizen yet fails to mention which laws were violated! Three days ago, during his campaign for Haryanas assembly polls, Mr.Modi , who is now the PM of India, instead of giving an account of how much he has delivered on the promise of Ache Din targets Robert Vadra, a mere private citizen , unmindful of the above facts. This time, relying on a newspaper report, based mostly on innuendoes, Mr.Modi invoked the Election Commission of India to take notice of the fact that the Haryana government bestowed favours upon Vadra, while the Model Code of Conduct was in place, by sanctioning the mutation of records for a land deal between two private entities! However, Mr.Modi does not tell you that the letter quoted in the news report, was dated 16th July 2014, much before the Model Code of Conduct came into force in Haryana on September 13th. Further, the letter only re-iterated a position that was established by an independent committee that found Ashok Khemkas orders to be invalid months ago! He also fails to tell you that Mr.Khemka, now given a plum central deputation by Mr.Modis government, never challenged the invalidation of his orders all this while! Finally, Mr.Modi fails to tell you that Robert Vadras land transactions, requiring mutations in records, are just one of the hundreds of such cases that take place in any state! By law, it is the state government that has to register these, whether it is for Vadra, Adani, Ambani or a common man on the street who sells or buys property! Merely because the MCC is in place doesnt preclude governments from doing their ordinary, everyday job! No wonder then , Mr.Modi quite slyly makes no reference to the law violated in this case! Fact7: Robert Vadra does not get special treatment when he travels! The BJP, every now and then, plants stories and reports on how special privileges like security check exemptions at airports are granted to Robert Vadra. The likes of Subramanian Swamy, blatantly mislead the country on how Mr.Vadra derives protection from the Special Protection group. But they fail to tell you that Vadra does not enjoy SPG or even Z security, something that Mr.Swamy has been granted by the way! When travelling alone, Robert Vadra gets frisked by security like any common citizen. The only exemption granted to him, is when he travels with Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi- the wife and children of PM Rajiv Gandhi, who along with his mother Indira Gandhi, was assassinated at the hands of terrorists, thus making them high risk security targets and hence protectees by the SPG under a statutory law! This is no different from the security-driven privileges that would be extended to Mr.Modis wife and mother, if he chooses to travel with them. Fact8: Mr.Modi and the BJP doesnt tell you that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote to the current government on May 30th, requesting them to withdraw all security privileges granted to her family. The authorities even under Mr.Modis government, notwithstanding the baseless rhetoric of the likes of Mr.Swamy, however decided that it would be unwise and imprudent to do any such thing given the intelligence reports of high risk and threats faced by them. Fact9: The BJP which falsely peddles a notion that Robert Vadras entrepreneurial skills blossomed thanks to the benefaction of the UPA government or his connections, fail to tell you that Vadra hails from one of the most successful business families in North India but that did not stop him from single-handedly creating his own business venture from scratch while he was still in his twenties! Perhaps, armed with these facts, about which the PM remains selectively silent, the country can decide if it is fair to tarnish reputations as was done with Rajiv Gandhi in Bofors or Indira Gandhi by the erstwhile Janta Party government.
