Exactly one year ago tonight, Bryson was laying in the Riley PICU heavily sedated and intubated after undergoing his 2nd Open Heart Surgery at just 7 months old. One of the best things Brian and I have ever heard was when Dr R., the cardiac surgeon, came to us after the surgery and said You have a pink baby. As weird as that sounds, those were the words that proved to us that Brysons heart was working better than it ever had before. Today, we celebrated Bryson and the happy, healthy little boy that he is. We spent the day eating all of his favorite things (spaghetti, pizza, cheese and donut holes,) exploring Science Central and just enjoying our little boy. It absolutely amazes me what Bryson has overcome in the past 12 months and all of the milestones he has reached that at one point, we werent even sure hed live to see. As I often like to remind myself, although he may have born with a broken heart, his spirit has never once shattered and his mended heart it is absolutely perfect for him now. Not a day goes by that I am not thankful for Brysons determination, Rileys team of the most incredible doctors and staff, all of our amazing family and friends who have spent hours and days praying over our little guy and a God who not only loves but heals and mends the weary.
