Excerpt from Equine Emergency Rescue ~ Congratulations to Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade who have just received a significant grant from the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This grant will enable the Greenbank volunteers to purchase a significant cache of Large Animal Rescue equipment, including safety gear and two rescue training mannequins. Greenbank RFB volunteers have become the go-to Brigade for rescuing trapped large animals in south Brisbane suburbs. They rescue on average one horse or cow each month, mostly from sticky dams, and these mannequins will allow them to train for every scenario imaginable. In June last year they were called out to Duchess, a 30-year-old mare that had fallen into a gully. This successful rescue gained significant coverage in the media, generating awareness of their Large Animal Rescue capability and adding to their skill set.
