Excerpts from Page-17 of the novel Resonance, a thriller by Ajay Pandey a trainee PPL student at Carver Aviation. Somashekhar Rao poured wine in a plain wineglass and pinged the glass with a teaspoon. He observed the sound attentively and then walked over to the System III Sirius Turntable at the far corner of the room. He chose Luciano Pavarottis opera performance in bel canto. He mounted the LP, gently lowered the stylus and tunred the volume knob, increasing the echo and hum. Nothing happened at tenor and countertenor levels, where the intonation alternated between two extremes. He tun slowly turned the knob in the opposite direction, slowly reducing the sound to a very low volume, and waited. Every one of them watched tentatively, holding their breath. When the vocal chords of the artist let out a bass-barritone, a large crack sread from the top to the base of the wine glass to the rim, shattering it into tiny shards of glass. Shomashekhar Rao walked pompously from the music deck to his awed audience. He chuckled, Resonance of a Simple Harmonic Motion is the only thing that is capable of flattering the entire planet.
