Exodus 6:6-8 Therefore, tell the Israelites, ‘I am the Lord. I will bring you out from your enslavement to the Egyptians, I will rescue you from the hard labor they impose, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you to myself for a people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from your enslavement to the Egyptians. I will bring you to the land I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob—and I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord!’” Today as we look back to the Lord’s promise to Israel, it strikes me that the Lord God says “I will” seven times in these three verses alone. Israel’s deliverance from Egypt has very little to do with their own effort, and everything to do with the Lord’s effort. They will know freedom from the oppression of Egypt because of the Lord’s might. In the same way, we have been delivered from sin through Christ Jesus. He dealt with sin, the yoke we were trapped under. Here again we see the story of the Old Testament foreshadow and reflect God’s redemptive plan for us in Christ. Then the result was Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt and into a promised land, flowing with milk and honey. In Christ Jesus we are sealed in via the Holy Spirit who makes His home with us, and assured the promise of eternal life with our Father in Heaven.
