Experience with different faith. When I first started practicing - TopicsExpress

Experience with different faith. When I first started practicing law as an intern in Islamabad District Courts, the senior I chose was a Christian by faith. Firstly, he was not taking me as an intern but I insisted for a meet-up and realized him that living in Pakistan he couldn’t escape Muslims—as he had to face Muslim judges, why not he keep a Muslim intern to know Muslim-psyche very well. My timetable, I told him would be his orders excluding the timings of my religious duties. With a pinch of salt, he agreed to it. Office timings were from 8 AM – 5 PM. Much to my chagrin, the very first day I joined office was Jumma and I went for my prayers by 12 o’clock, and came back to office exactly at 2:00PM. It was not acceptable to him because office work was burdening on him during my absence, and he had better keep a person who wouldn’t take two hours of office-time in mosques. I cooled him down by saying that it was only during Jumma I took that much time; remaining the five days of the office it would be only thirty minutes plus the minimum time for my lunch. Days passed. And much to my delight, everything ran very smooth between us. I remained for six months in his office and there popped not a single issue up between us. We ate in the same plates; drank in the same glasses; sat in the same chairs, and to the same tables. With the passage of time he started taking me for a very religious person and would call me molvi sahib or things like that which I didn’t like. However, one day in March, what I see during our lunchtime was that he wouldn’t eat his luncheon. On my asking he told me that he was with Fast, and that all Christians keep FAST that day. I replied him that could I call him priest or monk thence forward. At that he laughed out aloud. He said sorry to me. And from then onward he stopped calling me molvi. I remained with him for six months. He is still in touch with me. And we two have taken a liking to each other, and will remain in touch till the end our worlds.
