FACTS ABOUT BABYLON (27) Men rush to open churches under the pretext that they are being called or have been called of God? Called of God? If there is anything that men have so grossly misunderstood and stumbled over head over heel in the Christian religious circle, it is the word “call” or “calling.” You hear men say, “Oh, the Lord has called me to take the gospel to the ends of the earth!” Exciting to hear, isn’t it? Meanwhile, they themselves are very far from being evangelized. It is doubtful if they even understand what evangelism or evangelization is all about. One wonders if they ever sit back to reflect on their nakedness, wretchedness, emptiness and helplessness. A man who does not know the ABC of the gospel, and has little or no control over his fleshly emotions, lusts and desires, and quite often is unable to maintain discipline in his own house – children altogether loose and unruly, (if at all he’s married and has children) – how can such a one be called of God? How can he possibly be commissioned of God to have charge over His precious heritage - His highly cherished flock? Is it possible that God will call a man and send him away empty-handed? Can God send out a child – a novice – on the streets to trot and gallop along with divine things? Then God would only be exposing that child to untold dangers, and possibly, to be waylaid somewhere along the line by thieves and robbers who will abandon him dead, or half-dead, on the way; or to be crushed dead by some moving vehicle as he attempts in his inexperience to traverse spiritual highways and byways. Ernest Angley once remarked: “God will never send you on a mission without his ability to go with you. If God told you to climb a mountain and you obeyed, then you’d discover that across on the other side of the mountain there are more than just trees there.” But today it is very common to hear people brag a great deal about having been called without first hearing God’s voice and without the least spiritual substance in them. Called? Yea, called indeed to deceive and be deceived, but never of the Father of spirits and the God of all flesh! Their belly is their primary caller; for that is their almighty god. Apostle Paul wrote: “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the (materialistic) god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them,” - 2 Cor. 4:3-4. Men have always understood God’s call in terms of opening a mushroom church or flagging off some ministry, (And of course, that ministry is one of the most misunderstood terms in Christendom need not be overemphasized.)
