FANTASTIC Town Board meeting tonight. Nancy Johns of the Bob Barker Company went before Town Board to let them know that the company was committed to bring a Cultural Arts Center to Fuquay-Varina and that they did not want to wait to start planning it in 2019, as the 5 year plan suggests. In addition to donating the building, Bob and Pat Barker and Bob Barker Company have placed 1 million dollars into a foundation to help build the center. Bob also will lead the fundraising efforts to gain more support from the private sector. The company ALSO made a public announcement tonight that the Bob Barker Company will give a $25,000 annual contribution to the center to help with operation costs. Commissioner Blake Massengill then made a public statement saying he wanted to see a committee formed so that the town and the private sector can work on this project together. Commissioner Harris also said that he felt that the town needed to show their support publicly and to start working towards making this generous gift a reality. Commissioner Ridpath and Commissioner Wunsch both said they agreed that the committee needed to be formed and that they want to see a center happen in Fuquay-Varina, especially when a gift of this magnitude has been offered. Commissioner Adcock was not able to attend the meeting. The Town leadership, staff and citizens are all smart people and this committee will develop the strategy to make this a WIN for Fuquay-Varina.
