FEDERATION OF IGBO STUDENTS UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR CHAPTER (FIS UCC) VISIT EZE OF IGBO IN KANO STATE (ODU NDI IGBO VI) In deed, it was pleasurable irrespective of the hot climatic odour of Kano State when the delegates of Federation of Igbo Students University of Calabar visited the Eze of Igbo in Kano state. Comrade Ekene Christian Odumegwu, a three hundred level student of UNICAL who was recently inaugurated as the Igbo Students leader of the University of Calabar in quest for wisdom for a good governance and sustainable development of our dear Country lead delegates to the palace of Eze ndi Igbo in kano in the person of His Royal Highness J.C Nnaji (Aguna eche ibe 1 of Nkeke) On the arrival of FIS UCC delegates at the palace, the King was warmly excited and consequently welcomed the students in good and fatherly manner, After the introduction by the FIS President Comr .Odumegwu, the King thanked God almightly who lead the FIS UCC delegate safely from University of Calabar to Kano State and in addition thank the FIS President especially, being able to speak fluently in Igbo language and prayed that people who shall speak and represent the Igbo culture would never lack. The FIS president welcomed his prayers and compliments with an appreciation. Thank you your Highness. Moving forward in the conversation, the FIS President placed a wonderful request by seeking for a Leadership advice from the Eze of Igbo in Kano. His request was on how to govern and unite people especially the Igbo Students in University of Calabar with wisdom and understanding. The King, Igwe J.C Nnaji Welcomed the question. In his advice, He emphasized basically that people can best be governed successfully with a good relationship, even when they misbehaved or offend you do not be harsh on them rather call on the offenders when the tempo is low and advice them. Igwe J.C. Nnaji the Eze of Igbo in Kano adviced the FIS president personally to be mindful of the company he keeps because bad company ruins good reputation, he emphasized. The FIS president once again thanked the king of Igbo .Nevertheless, the FIS president equally laid emphasis on our dying Igbo culture and humbly reinstated that, the King of Igbo as a representative of the Igbo culture should no much about the Igbo Tradition, however he pleaded that the king should adviced on how to sustain the beautiful culture of the Igbo especially among the Students, Parents and the Teachers. The king in his reply opine that, it is a bad omen that the great culture of the wide Igbo is dying and nothing seems to be done about that . He memorized and objected, saying; “He fancy so much about does days when the tradition is respected ,even the Rev father enjoy celebrating the culture of our people’’. He however, made reference to the Hausas, Yorubas ,Benin etc and concluded by saying that one day our culture will come back into force more than the it used to be before. Furthermore, the king explained the reason why our culture looks the way it is today. According to the king, he said sound ably that the Igbos are confusing tradition with the pagan way of worship (Ndi ogo Mmuo) to him, when we marry according to the ways the Igbos marry, dresses the ways the Igbos dress, great people the way the Igbos great, they are kwon as the tradition of the Igbo. That is to say, Tradition of the Igbo (omenala Igbo) and Paganism are quite different from each other. Just like the Christians, pagans, Islamic, Judaism etc., different ways of worshiping God, the King said. After which the FIS President Comr. Ekene Odumegwu appreciated his contribution and wisdom towards aggravating their leadership capabilities. The king, Igwe J.C Nnaji at the end prayed and blessed the students and asked God to lead them back to school safely. He also prayed that God should continue to bless the students leaders with wisdom and understanding because wisdom can only come from god.
