FIDAM demands immediate halt of digging MU NEWS/IMPHAL, Dec 29 : FIDAM,Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared’s Association, Manipur (FIDAM), a body of families of persons who have disappeared after being picked by security forces and Human Rights Alert, a rights body have filed a petition to High Court of Manipur with a prayer to institute a special investigation team with an independent senior investigation officer besides issuing interim order to halt the construction activities (at Tombisana school campus) until a scientific exhumation is completed. It also urged the Court to monitor the investigation process in presence of FIDAM functionaries. FIDAM’s president K Ranjit whose elder brother K Loken was disappeared after he was picked up by the para-military forces 34 years ago, informed this while speaking to media this afternoon. He said they’re compelled to file the case as they’ve experience government’s indifference attitude in the past. FIDAM functionary said the skulls and skeleton remains which were recovered from the construction site of Tombisana high campus may belong to those who ‘disappeared’ in the past as the recovery site was once stationed by para-military forces and state police commandoes. Eight human skulls,bangles,finger ring and few coins of 1907 were discovered on December 25 and 26 while labourers were pouring in earth at a construction site o civil secretariat at Mantripukhri about 3 km north of Imphal. The soil had come from the Tombisana high school campus where the construction of a women’s market complex in underway.
