FItFAB tip for Ramadan : For buka, it is sunnah to break fast with something sweet. Kurma is definitely first on my familys list. In addition, we also take naturally sweet drinks like fruit/ veggie juice rather those sweetened drinks like bandung etc. This gives us the necessary nutrients and energy for our evening activities as family. Fruits is also definitely top of the list as our main desserts. To spice things up, I will usually make fruit salad or yoghurt topped with fruits and nuts as desserts too rather than starchy desserts ( kuih kuih with lots of sugar) We also exercise a one -plate habit of buka. We put what we want to eat for buka on a single plate . It is usually quite full! This ensures we are not eating too little or too much . As always, I dont eat anymore after I finish my maghrib prayers. This is my eating habit for many many years now. But I continue to drink lots of plain water to replenish what I have lost in the day. For those who cannot eat too much in one sitting, you may divide your buka into 2 portions. Eat a lighter meal for buka and after solat maghrib you can continue to eat the rest of the food before Isyak or solat terawih. This gives you good supply of energy to sustain our evenings ibadah. RUle of thumb still stands - what you eat will determine how energetic you feel. Too much oily food , starch and carbo, will make you sleepy and sluggish for your terawih. So remember, during Ramadan, nutrition is as CRUCIAL if not MORE crucial. Eat well but make sure, each calorie counts and is not just empty calories! I would avoid sweetened drinks, and starchy desserts full of flour and sugar and also deep fried food. So think through what you and your family are having for buka. It DOES make a HUGE difference ;) Stay fitfab during Ramadan!
