FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -HOLIDAY MUSIC MOTEL SPECIAL EVENT DARK SONGS Friday 10/31 10:30pm &Saturday November 1st 7-10pm The Tambourine Lounge at The Holiday Music Motel 59 N 2nd Street Sturgeon ----------------------------------------------------------------- Fresh Blood for Dark Songs 2014 For this year’s ‘Dark Songs’ hosted by The Holiday Music Motel, 11 new “fresh blood” additions will join the veteran ranks of this annual songwriting event. While 5 of these newcomers have participated in other similar events--such as Steel Bridge Songfest or Love On Holiday--for the other 6 participants this will be their first experience with collaboratively writing, recording and performing in one of the motel’s fully immersive week-long songwriting marathons. Christa Ebert (aka. Uno Lady) from Cleveland, OH will be an eclectic addition with her looping talents and vocal abilities while Julia McConahay (Madison, WI) will provide strong vocals and a wide range of violin stylings. (After Julia performed at this years Steel Bridge Songfest (with her band SHE SHE), she contacted organizers pat mAcdonald and melaniejane wanting to get further involved in the songwriting portion of the events.) Patrick Kelly (bass) from Atlanta, GA got involved on James Halls recommendation. Hall is one of The Holidays most dedicated event attendees. Local Sturgeon Bay transplants John Orlock (harmonica) and Marcus Trana (drums) will also be first time participants. Orlock spent many years performing in the Chicago blues scene while Trana, of Nistebox fame, cut his teeth in the indie rock clubs of Oslo, Norway. Jim Ohlschmidt from Minneapolis is a revered guitarist and singer who has toured nationwide. While he has performed several times at The Holiday and Tambourine, this, too, will be his first time participating in one of the motels collaborative songwriting events. Other first time participants are Sugar Ransom (Milwaukee), Susan Howe (Appleton) and Barrett Tasky (Chicago) all of whom possess a wide range of extraordinary talents that will add greatly to the darkly themed Dark Songs stew. Tasky, who is proficient at a multitude of instruments, will also run one of the four operational studios. Both ‘Dark Songs’ shows will take place at Third Avenue Playhouse and are $5 per night. The October 31st show from 10:30pm until midnight immediately follows the playhouse’s 7:30 screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
