FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ARREST KOJO MPIANI, JOE GHARTEY ET AL We wish to call for criminal investigations and prosecution into the way and manner unconstitutional contracts were awarded and subsequently abrogated in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling in the Waterville and Isofoton cases. While we at Inside Ghana concur with the opposition that persons involved in the payment of judgement debt to these entities should be criminally investigated, such partial call can best be described as political pharisaism and cussedness when juxtaposed against the very foundation of the ruling; UNCONSTITUTIONALITY OF THE CONTRACTS. At the heart of the said judgements is the way and manner senior members of the erstwhile Kufuor administration irresponsibly awarded such contracts without recourse to article 181(5) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. It is therefore imperative that all those involved in such capricious conduct be brought to justice. Their actions and inactions have not only caused the State gargantuan and mountainous financial losses but has also brought shame and panicky in the eyes of the international business community. Inside Ghana is therefore calling for the State to as a matter of urgency arrest Kojo Mpiani, Joe Ghartey, O.B. Amoah and all who have played a role in these quirky and shameful deals that are now questioning the country’s investability credentials. We are also calling on Joe Ghartey to honourably resign his position from the august house as the 2nd Deputy Speaker. As the then Attorney General he ought to have acted in the interest of the country which he failed to. It is therefore despicable and ignominious to the House that he is still occupying his seat. This line of action is necessary not only for justice to be served on the people of Ghana but for restoring confidence among the international community that Ghana is investor friendly. Foreign investors who wish to invest in Ghana would like to see the rule of law being applied in all jurisdictions without fear or favour. Government has a responsibility not only in protecting the interest of its citizens but also protecting the interests of foreign investors who are very critical to our developmental project. We therefore urge the relevant institutions to take the necessary actions in prosecuting all those involve. Signed George Spencer Quaye Convener
