FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 6, 2014 LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas Storm announced today that they have activated their franchise and will field a Las Vegas Storm team in the the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) beginning with the 2014-2015 season. The Storm are excited to be a part of a league that has grown to 28 teams, and will compete in the difficult Western Division against teams located throughout California. The Storm will play a 46-game regular season schedule, which mimics what players can expect to experience at the collegiate level. “We have been affiliated with the league for about 10 years, and have hosted their Western States Shootout each December right here at our Las Vegas Ice Center facility,” stated Kirk Brooks, owner of the new Las Vegas Storm team. “The league has continued to grow and improve each season, and we think it is the right time to join the WSHL and open up this opportunity for Junior “A” hockey in Las Vegas.” Ron White, commissioner of the WSHL added, “We are ecstatic that Kirk has decided to bring WSHL hockey back to Las Vegas. Las Vegas and the LVIC has been a great host site for our Western States Showcase, and our parents and players will look forward to adding Las Vegas to their travel schedule each year.” About the Las Vegas Storm LV Storm is a youth hockey program based in Las Vegas, NV that fields Midget and junior teams competing in various Tier I and western regional leagues. The Storm has recently added a team into the Western States Hockey League commencing with the 2014-15 season. The Storm plays out of the Las Vegas Ice Center, the valley’s only 2-sheet full-service ice rink. The Storm is affiliated with the Nevada Storm junior travel hockey program also playing out of LVIC as well as the Tri City Storm of the USHL. About the Western States Hockey League The WSHL is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) sanctioned, Tier III Junior A hockey league that has been in continuous existence since 1994. Starting with just six teams in 1994, the WSHL has grown to 28 teams for the 2014-2015 season with the addition of the Las Vegas Storm. The WSHL has had great success in moving players on to the college hockey ranks through a competitive league environment and its “Western States Shootout,” an annual all-league showcase held every December in Las Vegas, Nevada in front of nearly 100 scouts looking to bolster their squads.
