FORGIVENESS So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. (Colossians 3:12-14 MSG) Have you ever thought in your mind if theres a limit to what offence can be forgiven? I know the instant (default) response will be a NO! But honestly, lets think about this for a while before giving our honest answer. There are some offences that we pray that we dont commit especially as married partners. I believe this is particularly true for every married couple. Two (2) truths about forgiveness Ill like to emphasis right away. 1. FORGIVENESS is not an OPTION! Its a command and also a must. Sounds very bitter, doesnt it? Especially when we think we are justified considering the offence that has been committed against us. Well, since we have been asked to forgive quickly and completely as the Master (Jesus Christ) forgave us, it simply means we have received the ability to obey this command the moment we asked Him to be the Lord of our life. 2. FORGIVENESS is not about the OFFENDER! Its for our own good. When you forgive others, you are simply letting go of the hindrance of being denied Gods mercy which no one can survive without for any second. Walking outside of the umbrella of Gods mercy is not a risk worth taking. The extent to which we forgive is the extent to which we enjoy Gods unending mercy! Just before you make up your mind whether to forgive and let go of that offence or not, Ill like for you to watch the attached video clip. Sure it will blow your mind away! Sure it could not have been easy for this couple, but they knew its not an option and they are ripping the benefits of forgiveness.
