FORMER journalist turned business executive Kaizer Nyatsumba’s - TopicsExpress

FORMER journalist turned business executive Kaizer Nyatsumba’s opinion piece, which slams the police, in today’s edition of the Sowetan, is a textbook example of how self-centered we can be at times as human beings. Nyatsumba slams the police for hurriedly calling a press conference and offering R150 000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of Bafana and Orlando Pirates skipper Senzo Meyiwa’s killers. Nyatsumba says no such offer was made and there was no swiftness on the part of the police when his brother was killed a few years ago. I sympathise with Nyatsumba for his tragedy. Loosing someone you love is painful. I also believe the police could have handled his brother’s case better, if indeed there was sloppiness as he alleges. But I think Nyatsumba should know better that human beings are not equal. Is it really possible for the police to hold a press conference every time when someone is killed? It’s just not practical. The reality is that Senzo and Nyatsumba’s late brother were not equal in terms of their social status. But of course, their lives were equally important. None of them deserved to be killed.
