FOURTH GLOBAL MEETING OF THE MOUNTAIN PARTNERSHIP (Info for participants) 17-20 SEPTEMBER 2013 ERZURUM, TURKEY The Fourth Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership will be key to endorsing the new four-year strategy and governance of the Mountain Partnership and to initiate work on its implementation. It will also provide a unique opportunity for members from across the world a chance to meet, network, present interesting initiatives and promote collaborative action in sustainable mountain development. All Mountain Partnership members are invited to the event. Key Objectives endorsement of the 2014-17 Mountain Partnership Strategy and Governance document and discussion of its implementation selection of the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee members definition of a joint effort to provide appropriate follow-up to the Rio+20 process and to the Sustainable Development Goals exchange of information and networking among members Download a draft programme for the event. Dates The meeting will take place 17-19 September. There will be an optional field trip on 20 September. Meeting venue The meeting will take place at the Xanadu Snow White Hotel, Erzurum. Partnership Fair This is a formal space for MP members to present their ongoing or upcoming activities with the aim of forging new collaborations within the Partnership and to launch joint initiatives. Please send a short half-page description of what you would like to propose to [email protected]. Side events Every day a few hours will be available for side events, which should ideally be organized by two or more Mountain Partnership members. Members who wish to propose a side event should email [email protected]. Workshops If members wish to propose a one- or two-day workshop prior to or after the meeting they should contact [email protected]. Ideally workshops should be organized by two or more Mountain Partnership members. Languages Simultaneous interpretation in English, French, Spanish and Turkish will be available during the meeting. Funding The Mountain Partnership Secretariat will cover maximum one participant for each member from developing countries, if budget allows. In particular the following expenses will be covered: the cheapest flight in economy class, hotel and meals during the meeting. The following expenses will not be covered: Taxi/bus/private car to reach the airport; meals and other expenses during the journey – unless otherwise agreed upon; visa costs; insurance or any other expenses. If resources are not sufficient to cover all participants requesting support, funding will be provided on a “first come first served” basis, with reference to the date on which the registration form is sent. Visa requirement Participants should check with the Turkish Embassy in their country of origin whether they need a visa. For more information see mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa. Time in Turkey Time in Turkey is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) Transport Participants will be picked up from Erzurum Airport by a shuttle bus and taken to the hotel. There are 4 daily flight connections from Istanbul to Erzurum - 2 direct and 2 via Ankara. Internet access Free internet access will be available to all participants. Climate The meeting venue is located at an altitude of about 1757 meters above sea level. The weather can be cool in the evening.
