FRI., 17TH JANUARY, 2014. ODEHYIEBA DAILY DEVOTION TOPIC: CHOOSING WISELY Pt 10 TEXT: Proverbs 18:24 NIV One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother EXPOSITION Today, we shall be looking at the last three (3) of the ten (10) factors to consider when choosing friends. 8. Selfless: Selflessness is the opposite of selfishness. Selfless people are those who put other peoples interest ahead of themselves. They do not choose to always be first or have their way. They are people who seek to love others and make them happy. Imagine two selfless people being friends. Chances are that they would have a wonderful friendship because they would always be thinking of the other persons interest first. 9. Good Communicator: Relationships take work. Having a friend who can communicate well is a huge bonus to a friendship. It is necessary to be able to talk about your feelings when seeking to have a healthy relationship. A person who can be honest and communicate what they are feeling will really help you learn how to love that person better. For example, if you are best friends with someone and at a point in time he/she felt hurt by something you said, wouldn’t you rather wish he/she tell you so you can work it out rather than to ignore it and grow bitter inside? I know that the best friendships are the ones where we communicate with each other, whether or not it’s easy. A friend who is not willing to talk to you when he/she is down or feels like talking to you at his/her own free time is not worth your friendship. 10. Forgiving: Finding a friend who knows how to forgive is highly recommendable. We as humans are imperfect so learning how to have a friendship with another imperfect human takes time. It also takes knowing how to forgive. Don’t take someone forgiving you lightly. Make sure to fix whatever you were forgiven for! Remember to err is human but to forgive is divine. In conclusion, I believe these are some great qualities that make a good friend. I would encourage you to take a look at yourself and see if these are qualities that you possess. Also, please keep your eyes opened to see if your friends possess these qualities. You must desire friendships that are healthy, uplifting, and lasting. If you have already found friends with these qualities, hold onto them and don’t let them go. If not then seek diligently through prayers that God will direct and connect you to the right people in life. Go above and beyond to be a good friend back. Good friends are a beautiful thing to have in life! God willing in our next devotion, we shall be looking at another area of choice, thus, making the choice to live a holy life unto God. Stay blessed and enjoy the weekend. PEACE-SHALOM! FURTHER STUDY 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 CHOOSE WISELY STAY ABLAZE FOR CHRIST REMAIN RAPTURABLE
