FRIENDS OF UDOM EMMANUEL ON FACEBOOK(FOUE) #Gang22Lied UDOM Emmanuel RE: MEMO TO HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR GODSWILL AKPABIO (CON) BY G22 We refer to an open letter with the above title, published in the Nation on Sunday (December 21, 2014), signed by the 22 aggrieved former gubernatorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, who lost the party’s primary election to Mr Udom Emmanuel, and addressed to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON). In the said letter the aggrieved politicians claimed to write the letter “to harmoniously bring the ‘matter’ to a close in due deference to transparency, democracy and good political conduct.” However, the aggrieved politicians crossed the lines of transparency, democratic principles, good political conduct, ethics, morality and honesty when they mischievously referenced Mr Udom Emmanuel as the “maternal cousin” of Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio. Given the astounding achievements, global acclaim and unimpeachable track record of Governor Akpabio, any Akwa Ibom person (including Mr Udom Emmanuel) would be proud to be his blood relation. Like the aphorism goes, “Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan.” However, no such blood relationship exists between Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio and Mr Udom Emmanuel. What one finds most disturbing and worrisome is that these gentlemen, who aspired to an office of high integrity and honesty, are fully aware that such a relationship does not exist between the two distinguished gentlemen, yet they caused this falsehood to be published in the hope that they could make some political capital out of it. Some of them fully understand that both gentlemen’s paths crossed in the course of their professional duties late in their lives. Governor Godswill Akpabio’s mother, Mrs Lucy Obot Akpab (nee Inyangeto) of blessed memory was from the Inyangeto family in Ukana Ikot Etan in Essien Udim Local Government Area. The mother of Mr Udom Emmanuel, Emily Emmanuel (Nee Nsekhe) came from the Nung Inyang Nta family in Awa AtaiVillage in Onna Local Government. Mr Udom Emmanuel’s father also hails from Awa Iman Village in Onna Local Government Area with no blood relationship with the Inyangeto family of Ukana Ikot Etan in Essien Udim local government area. Essien Udim local government is in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, while Onna local government is in Eket Senatorial District. Govenor Akpabio is of Annang ethnic group, while Mr Udom Emmanuel is of Ibibio ethnic group. So how are they maternal cousins, except some people wanted to fool Nigerians in general and the PDP in particular? So one is extremely sad that 22 persons who should be epitomes of morality could condescend to conjecture such blatant falsehood and cause same to be published for political reasons. Such instances of realpolitik are the bane of our democracy and should be eschewed in our political development. Though we must sadly confess that this is just another line in a pattern of lies, falsehood and misrepresentations, which has attended the politics of Akwa Ibom State of late. We urge these politicians to remember the famous injunction by the American statesman, Abraham Lincoln, that “what is morally wrong cannot be politically right.” If it is morally wrong to tell lies, it cannot definitely be politically right to do so – no matter the circumstances. We, however, urge them to sheath their swords and accept the peace overtures extended to them by the Party’s Gubernatorial Candidate, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and the party. Let them join the party in its determined march to lead the good people of Akwa Ibom State to consolidate the gains of the last seven and a half years and attain new heights in 2015. Mr. Ekerete Udoh, Director, Media and Publicity.
