FROM THE NEWSROOM: A request for proposals by the Thompson Solar - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: A request for proposals by the Thompson Solar Advisory Committee has been unanimously approved by the Thompson Board of Selectmen. The Committee put together the RFP over many months, focusing on five town buildings which may benefit from the addition of solar panels. These buildings, according to Committee Chairman Alvan Hill, “use a tremendous amount of electricity.” Tourtellotte Memorial High School was noted as a top energy user, and the new TEEG building, the Thompson Water Pollution Control Authority plant, the town garage and the Thompson Library and Community Center were all included in the proposal. The addition of solar panels would reduce energy costs, though not drastically. The purpose of requesting the proposals is to find out what the cost of installation, as well as future savings, would be. The town could either make a purchase power agreement with a supplier, or buy panels outright through bonding; the latter of which would be more expensive up front, but would equate to higher returns in energy credits. The request for proposals will be sent out to officials at the five properties, who will be expected to gather quotes from solar companies to be brought back to the Committee. Once quotes are received, solar suppliers will come together for a pre-conference on May 16th. Final bids are due by May 23rd, and on May 29th, a special Board of Selectmen meeting will be held, in which the Solar Advisory Committee will present the best proposal. The towns course of action on this matter will be decided upon by the end of this month. Tune in for the full report.
