FROM THE NEWSROOM: In Plainfield, a small crowd turned out for a Public Hearing regarding the towns proposed 2014-15 budget Monday. Vickie Meyer, Chairman of the Board of Finance, said the meetings purpose was to give the public a chance to address their concerns or thoughts about the $45.2 million budget, but aside from one compliment, nobody stepped forward to express any issues with the presented figures. Meyers has some ideas about why. “It was a very smooth season,” she said. “There was no mil increase, there was no tax increase this year.” Meyer went on to explain that Plainfield Renewable Energys new biomass plant brought in significant additional revenue to the town, filling some gaps in funding the finance board hadnt been able to step around over the past few years. A Town Meeting has been scheduled for May 19th, where a vote will be taken on the proposed $10.9 million general government budget, the $34.3 million school budget and the towns capital improvement plan. First Selectman Paul Sweet said he expects the budget to pass without any problems. Tune in for the full report.
