FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Massachusetts students scored among the top performing education systems worldwide in reading, math and science, while students in Connecticut also had top scores in reading and science and around average results in math. About half a million students in 65 nations and educational systems took part in the 2012 Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA, which is coordinated by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD. The test is given every three years to 15-year-olds. Massachusetts students tied for fourth worldwide in reading literacy and tied for seventh in science literacy and 10th in math literacy. Connecticut came in fifth place in reading and eighth in science. In math, students performed on average with their international peers but performed above average nationally.
