FROM THE NEWSROOM: Plainfield residents have given the go-ahead to town officials to move forward with plans for upgrades to the North Plant and Village Plant waste water treatment facilities, as well as capital improvements at Shepard Hill Elementary School, Moosup Elementary School, Plainfield Central School, Plainfield Memorial School, the Early Childhood Center, and Plainfield High School. Residents voted at a Town Meeting last night to send the two items to a town-wide referendum vote. As reported, the waste water treatment upgrades call for a $5.5 million appropriation, whereas the school upgrades are projected to cost $4 million. The state is expected to reimburse 75 percent of the cost of the education related expenditures, according to Superintendent of Schools Ken DiPietro. DiPietro says hes confident the public will pass the school improvements at referendum, because a general awareness of the significant state reimbursement; however, he is less confident the waste water treatment upgrade will gain public approval. A town-wide referendum on these two items, to be voted on separately as they were at the town meeting, will be held on December 10 from noon to 8 p.m. Tune in for the full report.
