FROM THE NEWSROOM: ROCKY HILL, Conn. (AP) — Nonpartisan staff members are scheduled to present state lawmakers with recommendations for improving the aging Connecticut Veterans Home in Rocky Hill. The General Assemblys Program Review and Investigations Committee has been examining operations at the facility and whether residential services are delivered fairly and adequately. The panel is set to meet Friday afternoon to learn about the recommendations. Some proposals could be considered by the full legislature in the coming session, which begins on Jan. 7. About 80 people, including veterans who rely on the homes nursing facility and residential housing, turned out for a recent field hearing. While some called the home a life-saver, others complained they felt disrespected by staff. Besides the legislative committee, a task force led by Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman is reviewing veterans services.
