FROM THE NEWSROOM: STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn officials say quarterback Casey Cochran has decided to end his football career because of multiple concussions. The sophomore from Monroe, Connecticut, won the starting quarterback job this season but was injured in a first-game loss to BYU. UConn announced Monday that Cochran, his family and school medical staff decided that he shouldnt play football again because of multiple concussions. Coach Bob Diaco says Cochran will continue to serve the team as a mentor and has an interest in pursuing a coaching career. The 6-foot-1 Cochran went 17 of 31 for 171 yards and an interception in the loss to BYU. He played in eight games last season and started the final four, going 3-1. Senior Chandler Whitmer started at quarterback in a win over Stony Brook on Saturday.
