FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Belleville mayoralty candidate who requested a recount of the votes from the October 27th municipal election wont like the City Clerks recommendation to City Council. Lonnie Herrington asked that the ballots be counted again because of what he claimed were irregularities in the voting system, which kept some people from casting ballots for the candidates they wanted for mayor. City staff met today to prepare the agenda for next Mondays council meeting, and City Clerk Matt MacDonald says it includes his report suggesting the request be rejected because the manner in which it is made it outside councils legislative ability to authorize. However, he wouldnt comment further on his position the recount should be held. Council will make a final decision on Monday.
