FROM THE NEWSROOM: The cost of new technology does not come cheap and in some cases even with help from the state many cannot afford the upgrades associated with ever changing upgrades. Now Pomfret has discovered that by implementing, what could possibly be required in the future, may not be in arms reach after all. A fiber-optic infrastructure provided by The Nutmeg Network currently has lines at the Pomfret Community School, as well as the Police and Fire Departments. Pomfret was awarded a $125,000 grant to bring the lines from the Community School to the Town Hall (a distance of approximately 2.1 miles); however, the maintenance fee for this service is $925.00 per month. A fee, which First Selectman Maureen Nicholson said is just not in their budget. Stay tuned for more details.
