FROM THE NEWSROOM: When Fusion Paperboard made the announcement - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: When Fusion Paperboard made the announcement that it would close its Sprague plant this fall, eight-year-employee Mike DAuria and a handful of other employees decided they would take the community recycling program they started at the mill and go solo. The closure of Fusion Paperboard will leave about 145 employees jobless. DAuria says that if the new company, Life Cycle Industries, is successful, he hopes that about 50 employees will be back on the job with him in the next few years. Life Cycles goal is to “collect, process and supply American recyclable to American manufactures...” offer free recycling services to customers in Eastern Conn., and provide the recycled fiber to American manufacturers. DAuria says Life Cycle has the connections in place, “sales locked up,” and a vision and business plan in place – but the last pieces of the puzzle are pricy. “Unfortunately, I think weve depleted every avenue as far as looking for grants and [other funding],” he said. “Were hoping for some involvement from the community with donations, to help us to get the recycle truck and get some more bins so we can get this thing rolling.” DAuria says his group has good projections for the next few years, when it comes to job growth locally. “In three to five years, [we will be] a company that has 50 employees, able to supply domestic recycling manufacturers with good recyclables at a better price,” he said.
