FULL List of titles returned to Kabaka released The Attorney General, Peter Nyombi, has released the complete list of the 213 land titles returned to the Kabaka of Buganda on Tuesday. The list indicates that the land returned to the Kabaka is located in various parts of Buganda, including Buruli in Nakasongola district. The other land returned is located in all the districts of Buganda. But none of the land returned to the Kabaka is located in Kibaale district. The Buganda kingdom said yesterday that it will retain land for the county (Ssaza) and sub-county (Gombolola) headquarters situated in Kayunga and Nakasongola. The kingdom’s justice and constitutional affairs minister, Apollo Makubuya, told New Vision that they would consider relinquishing the land occupied by tenants if they get compensation from the Government. But the land where the county and sub-county headquarters are located will be retained. Kingdoms across the country yesterday welcomed the Government’s move of giving back Buganda its confiscated properties, but some like that of Bunyoro said Buganda should not claim any of the properties located within its territory. Makubuya said that the kingdom will not claim any land in Kibaale district. He noted that following the 1964 referendum, Buyaga and Bagangaizi counties were returned to Bunyoro. “We are looking at 18 counties where we have a stake — of course I know we shall have to double-check and we still have a long way to go,” Makubuya said, adding that counties and sub-county headquarters that were built by the Buganda kingdom in Nakasongola and Kayunga will remain under the kingdom’s ownership. **See the complete list of the titles on pages 4 and 5 of the THURSDAY NEWSPAPER epaper.newvision.co.ug/login.aspx
