FUTA ORGANISES TRAINING FOR ACCOUNTING AND AUDITING STAFF The Federal University of Technology, Akure has organized a 3-day national training on International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) for her staff to keep them abreast of international accounting and auditing operations and practices. The training is collaboration between FUTA and Victor Owonifari &Co, a Chartered Accountant and Management Consultant. Declaring the training open, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Tolulope Akinbogun who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola, stressed the importance of keying in into current trends and new development to enhance better service delivery. In view of this, he urged participants to make the best use of the opportunity of the training. According to him, in compliance with the new directive of the Federal Government on financial operations in the University system, FUTA deemed it important and necessary to organize the training to advance financial operations of the University. In his own address, the University Bursar, Mr. Raphael Aladetimi said the training will add value to the operations of the University’s accounting operations and enhance the technical know-how of the beneficiaries. According to him, the Bursary department is fully prepared to be IPSAS-compliant in its operations in preparing 2013 financial statement. He, however, sought the support of the University community in implementing the outcome of the training. Mr. Aladetimi thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daramola and his management team for the continuous support the Bursary department is receiving. At the training, FUTA’s Chief Accountant (Final Accounts) and a resource person, Mr. Alabi Sunday delivered papers on Management of Government Grants, Treatment of Borrowing Cost, Treatment of Impairment of Asset and Nature and Types of Intangible Asset, Disclosure Requirements in IPSAS. Other resource persons who took the participants through current trends in accounting and auditing procedures were the Auditor General of Plateau State, Mr. B. A. Achaka, that of Cross River State, Mr. Chris Eyoung and Mr. Israel Akinnusi and Benson V. Ugboke who are both financial experts. In a chat, the lead trainer, Mr. Victor Owonifari said the training aimed at making FUTA Bursary staff to appreciate and comply with international financial system so as to enhance their technical know-how and service delivery.
