FYI on ELECTRICITY BILLS If your electricity meter is inside - TopicsExpress

FYI on ELECTRICITY BILLS If your electricity meter is inside your apt, which often is the case in older buildings, making it inaccessible to the electricity company, then your electricity bill will likely be grossly inflated -- the electricity company estimates what your maximum electricity use would be and charges you this VERY expensive rate (since they claim they cannot inspect the actual meter inside your house). What you need to do is self-report your meter reading, sending the 5 digit number on your meter (ignoring the 6th digit which is in red) to the electricity company via phone or via a personal account you can create on the companys website. To create this online account, you need information contained on your bill (contract# and meter#). You can request that the company inform you via email/sms when you need to self-report the meter, or you can wait to get the horridly inflated estimate bill, and then self-report to get the much cheaper real bill amount. In short, if you dont take care of this, youll let the electricity company scam you rotten. [if any of this information is incorrect, please let me know as I am just figuring this out myself!]
