Fast Fact from Credo Reference: Namibia The Republic of Namibia lies on the Atlantic coast to the S of Angola and to the N of South Africa. The coastal region contains the arid Namib Desert, mostly between 900 and 2,000m [2,950-6,560ft] above sea level, which is virtually uninhabited. Inland is a central plateau, bordered by a rugged spine of mountains stretching n-s. e Namibia contains part of the Kalahari, a semi-desert area which extends into Botswana.
