Favorable news for musicians and hobbyists alike, the United States Department of Transportation has decided to allow musical instruments as a stowable carry-on, Forbes reported yesterday. The new rule is set to go into effect March 6, 2015. The FAA rule states: The rule requires that each U.S. carrier subject to this regulation allow a passenger to carry into the cabin and stow a small musical instrument, such as a violin or a guitar, in a suitable baggage compartment, such as the overhead bin or a closet, or under the seats, in accordance with FAA safety regulations and the carrierâs FAA-approved carry-on baggage program. The public pressure for the DOT to review the issue (section 403 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012) surfaced after a viral video pointing out the abuse baggage handlers tend to have with personal belongings and major airlines reputations for not fulfilling their insurance policy for damaged items.
