He also performed free eye surgeries for impoverished children in developing countries through the Children of the Americas program among other accomplishment, he became involved in politics in 1994, when he founded Kentucky Taxpayers United, a watchdog group tracking taxation and spending. In the Senate, Rand serves on the Foreign Relations, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, and Small Business Committees. Married for 23 yrs, has 3 boys.
