First Warn Forecast: Wendesday, December 31, 2014.. .The last day of 2014 and we will see plenty of sunshine with a wind shift from the NW to the SW by later this afternoon. Look for highs in the mid 20s today. .Tonight weather will not be a factor on the roadways tonight for New Years Eve, as we will be clear and cold with lows in the lower 20s. .More sunshine for New Years Day with highs near 40. Clouds increase Thursday night with lows near 30. .The next system which has been a challenge to forecast will likely come at us in several waves... The first will be in the form of clouds late Thursday night and for Friday... Limited moisture during this time period... Fridays highs in the lower 40s... By Friday night the next wave of precipitation in the form of a wintry mix will impact the region...Rain, Freezing Rain, Sleet, and Snow will be possible...South of the STL metro look for rain to be dominant at this point (Se MO and So IL).. Lows in the lower 30s. .Saturday look for a rain/snow mix with highs heading to near 40 we will see most, if not all of the area change to a rain... I-70 north may remain in the Rain/Snow mix through the forecast. Saturday night as colder air moves back in the remaining moisture should change to all snow... Exception to this will be SE MO and SO IL... Lows in the lower 20s. .Still a lot of questions on the table with this storm... The models while in decent agreement in placement of low and trough, they differ in thermal dynamics, speed and timing... Given this for now, (unfortunately), I am going to stay broad with the forecast and keep it a mix bag of precipitation... Not even going to touch accumulation amounts as of yet... I will in later forecast... A shift in any component of this storm will shift the forecast significantly... As with any of these SW storms they are always fun to forecast, but difficult as well. Stay tuned. Sunday look for a mostly sunny sky and highs in the upper 20s and lows in the upper teens. Monday skies will be a mix of clouds and sun with highs in the lower 30s and lows in the lower 20s. .Tuesday look for mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of snow...Highs in the lower 30s. #stlwx #mowx #ilwx #semowx #winter #newyearseveforecast #cold Be Safe out tonight — celebrating New Years Eve.
